Whilst AGB Nielsen Media Research measure how many people watch a certain programme at any time at home, they do not measure viewership outside the home.
RTÉ Television Sales have commissioned a number of research studies to find out how many additional viewers we get outside of the home.
Below are a selection of some of our research results for major sports events:

Ireland’s Triple Crown Win 2006
On Saturday 18th March 2006, 903,000 adults watched Ireland win the Triple Crown, live on RTÉ Two. Following further research, we found that an additional 454,000 watched the match on RTÉ Two, outside the home. That was 50% extra free! A home-and-away win for all our advertisers.

Six Nations Rugby 2006, Ireland v France
We’ve always known how many people are watching RTÉ in their homes. For example on Saturday, 11th February 2006, 585,000 adults braved a nail-biting game of two halves as Ireland took on France in Paris, live on RTÉ Two. Following further research, we now know that an additional 216,000 watched the match outside their home.
That’s 37% extra free! A winning situation for our advertisers.
